Microsoft’s Skype team are putting content creation at the heart of the Skype for Desktop app with some help from NewTek.

Skype for Content Creators is designed to open new interactive possibilities for Skype users all over the world—including leading digital broadcasters, streamers, and vloggers—to record videos, podcasts, and live streaming calls without having to invest in expensive studio equipment. Part of this change is implementation of the royalty-free NewTek NDI^® IP video standard.

With Skype for Content Creators, Windows 10 and Mac users will be able to select the Content Creators mode to place and record calls directly within NewTek NDI–enabled software such as:

• vMix
• Wirecast
• XSplit

Content Creators can also utilize the many NDI–enabled live production appliances from NewTek such as TriCaster^® and can acquire content easily with NDI–enabled converters and cameras such as:

• NewTek NDI PTZ1 Camera
• NewTek Connect Spark Converter
• BirdDog Studio NDI^® Converter

Once the call is recorded, content can be easily imported into apps such as Adobe^® Premier^® Pro and Adobe^® Audition for editing. In addition, users can customize the look and feel of the call—so they can be part of a live show ready for streaming to audiences of all sizes.

There’s no need for additional recording or screen capture solutions. Skype will provide clean feeds of all group video call participants to your choice of NewTek NDI^®–enabled software, dramatically simplifying the process of using Skype within collaborative content.

Skype now unlocks the content from within the Skype for Desktop app, making it easier than ever to use the audio and video to create collaborative, engaging content with as little as two steps from setting up the call to livestreaming your call to a platform of your choice.

However, broadcast and streaming studio producers can also utilize Skype for Content Creators mode with the many NDI^®–enabled production systems and applications from dozens of manufacturers, including live production appliances from NewTek such as the TriCaster^®, 3Play^® 3P1, and NewTek IP Series.

Skype for Content Creators Mode NDI streams can also easily be mixed and layered with video, audio and graphics from NDI^®–enabled converters, cameras, software and appliances such as:

A further feature of Skype with NDI is that the user is no longer limited to a built-in or directly attached webcam to use for the video from a system. Any NDI-enabled camera on the network can be set as the video that Skype is sending.
